That was a Jewish law not to eat pork. It was considered an unclean animal. I suppose it was a health issue. |
|
 |
The books of Law of Moses see Leviticus. It was for a time and for a certain people namely the Jews. |
|
 |
I LOVE PORK |
|
 |
Evangelical/Bapist Christians usually say so but Methodists or Catholics dont. To be honest its how you interpret it like most things in the bible. |
|
 |
It was an OT prohibition. Many Jews still observe it today though. Christians are free to eat most anything.
Lev 11:7 And the swine though he divide the hoof and be clovenfooted yet he cheweth not the cud he is unclean to you.
Lev 11:8 Of their flesh shall ye not eat and their carcase shall ye not touch they are unclean to you. |
|
 |
Yes. Whether Christians obey is another question. |
|
 |
This was a Jewish law. When Jesus came to the world he established new laws for HIS people to live by. Thus as Christians we are not governed by the Old Testament. |

I resent those who try and pit Old Testament Jews against New Testament gentiles buy asking if old testament commands must be followed. In this regard I ask you to read the Barnes following comments regarding Romans 14:33 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
Barnes Notes on the New Testament Judge him. To judge here has the force of condemn. This word also is very happily chosen. The Jew would not be so likely to despise the Gentile for what he did as to judge or condemn him. He would deem it too serious a matter for contempt. He would regard it as a violation of the law of God and would be likely to assume the right of judging his brother and pronouncing him guilty. The apostle here has happily met the whole case in all disputes about rites and dress and scruples in religious matters that are not essential. One party commonly despises the other as being needlessly and foolishly scrupulous and the other makes it a matter of conscience too serious for ridicule and contempt and a matter to neglect which is in their view deserving of condemnation. The true direction to be given in such a case is to the one party not to treat the scruples of the other with derision and contempt but with tenderness and indulgence. Let him have his way in it. If he can be reasoned out of it it is well but to attempt to laugh him out of it is unkind and will tend only to confirm him in his views. And to the other party it should be said they have no right to judge or condemn another. If I cannot see that the Bible requires a particular cut to my coat or makes it my duty to observe a particular festival he has no right to judge me harshly or to suppose that I am to be rejected and condemned for it. He has a right to his opinion and while I do not despise him he has no right to judge me. This is the foundation of true charity and if this simple rule had been followed how much strife and even bloodshed would it have spared in the church. Most of the contentions among Christians have been on subjects of this nature. Agreeing substantially in the doctrines of the Bible they have been split up into sects on subjects just about as important as those which the apostle discusses in this chapter. |

No. The Jewish Torah condemns this it was only ever binding on Jews.
Many non Jews also abide by the dietary laws BUT originally they were only binding on Jews. When Paul told the Gentiles he was liberating them from the old laws it made no sense Gentiles were never UNDER the Jewish laws to start with |

God condemned eating of pork in the OT because in those days they didnt know how to preserve pork from all the bacteria that grew on it. It was for health reasons only |
|
 |
Not condemned but instructions on how to eat healthy. Seems many just read about not eating pig when it also says not to eat an eagle an Osprey a vulture an owl a swan a pelican a bat.....Lev 11 Im so sure those eating swine also eat many of these other unclean animals....NOT. Unclean animals are scavengers and made by God to keep this earth clean Not to eat. We are only to eat those things which God created to be received with thanksgiving. God did not create all animals to be received. |

Yes it is absolutely true its Gods law for all people to not eat pork pigs and all other unclean animals. We are not to eat animals that eat on rotting flesh or are natures vacuum cleaners. Anyone who follows Christ should not eat unclean animals.
A passage in Isaiah refers to the time of Jesus return to earth shows this of the future: For behold the LORD will come with fire and with His chariots...the LORD will judge all flesh and the slain of the LORD shall be many. Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves to go to the gardens after an idol in the midst eating swines flesh and the abomination and the mouse shall be consumed together says the LORD Isaiah 66:1517. Here we see that at Christs return eating unclean things is condemned and those who do so will be punished.
The biblical position is clear. Distinctions between clean and unclean meats existed long before the New Testament was written they were followed by the leaders and other members of the early Church and they will still apply at the time of Christs return in the future when He will enforce them. Therefore they are clearly to be observed today as well by members of the modern Church which keeps the commandments of God and has the testimony of Jesus Christ Revelation 12:17.
Even though firstcentury Christians struggled with their consciences over meat sacrificed to idols the Bible indicates that they lived in harmony with Gods instruction regarding clean and unclean meats. Shouldnt we also live in harmony with those laws?
As Christians we are supposed to follow Christ and since Christ kept all of Gods commandments and didnt eat unclean meat we should also hold to the same standard and do the same.
This is more of what Jesus said concerning the Tanakh Old Testament in Matthew 5:
Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:1921
What Jesus said was quite clear that we must keep the Tanakh Old Testament and Ten Commandments that he had not come to abolish them
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth until heaven and earth disappear not the smallest letter not the least stroke of a pen will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Matthew 5:1719
Jesus confirmed that the Law of Moses The Tanakh Old Testament Commandments were to be observed and that he had not come to do away with them only to fulfil them.
Jesus was Jewish. The only book and law that Jesus was talking about was the Tanakh Old Testament and the Commandments as that is what they had in their hand at the time the New Testament had not yet been written. Jesus followed the Law during his life all the biblical teachings of the prophets and all Ten Commandments Gods Law handed down to Moses on Mount Sinai for all nations to abide by and confirmed that nothing would disappear from the law. The New Testament is different because it is for individuals not nations and how they should live their lives as individuals in relation to each other. The Old Testament and New Testament are both 100 valid the whole bible and is what Christians should follow.
It may not require much willpower to resist eating bats or vultures but we may have trouble to resist eating pork lobster shellfish catfish and other unclean meat. It is easy to reason that so many others eat these foods seemingly with no adverse effect. So whats the problem? We do not always see the rationale behind Gods restrictions. Similarly we can not always justify the restrictions we place on our children. They simply trust our knowledge and experience because they understand we are interested in their welfare.
God does not restrict these unclean animals arbitrarily. As Our Creator God is infinitely acquainted with every detriment to the most minute cell in our body. Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear you are more valuable than many sparrows. Matthew 10:2931. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and the Spirit searches all things yes the deep things of God. 1 Corinthians 2:10
Many unclean animals are predators whereas a clean animal is an herbivore. The Bible has established that every green herb was the diet originally intended for animals. When the Bible says green herb it does not mean grain. Green herbs provide the nutrients to form muscle and flesh in these species. If we choose to eat meat it makes sense that we eat meat formed directly from plant life and not many times removed.
Other unclean animals are scavengers. Their function is to remove putrefying carcases and filth from our lands and waters. These animals are often parasite ridden. Some may think it is chique to eat sushi topped with exotic raw fish but it is not at all chique to have a tape worm strapped along several feet of the intestines. In the case of pork and swine the parasites can be killed by thoroughly cooking the meat but that is not a consolation. The problem is more than parasites. It is the very constitution of the meat. If we are what we eat then so are scavengers. Not only should we not eat them we should not even touch the dead carcase. They shall be an abomination to you you shall not eat their flesh but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination. Leviticus 11:11
Many beef producers add growth hormones to cattle feed. Those hormones are passed along directly to the consumers body. Some have even mingled manure and unusable carcase portions of cattle back into the feed to reduce costs and increase profits. These acts against nature make unclean animals from clean. Imagine a cow thoroughly ruminating on itself or its kind. Such detestable practices are generally considered to be the cause of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy or BSE mad cows disease. Here are some references on the subject:
There is strong evidence and general agreement that the outbreak was amplified by feeding rendered bovine meatandbone meal to young calves. USDHW
Epidemiological studies conducted in the UK suggest that the source of BSE was cattle feed prepared from bovine tissues such as brain and spinal cord that was contaminated by the BSE agent. WHO
The point is that only eating meat deemed to be clean by the bible is not good enough. This cannot be overstated. We see a rising trend in unsafe meat production these days. Bible health and common sense dictates to the best of our abilities we should know the source and quality of the meat we eat. This includes fish and poultry. If chickens are raised in overpopulated coups or fish drawn from mercurypolluted waters they should not be eaten.
When we have done all we can to adhere to the principles of Bible health and ask Gods blessing we can be fully confident that the food we eat is beneficial to our lives. |

Christians is it true that the bible condemned the eating of Pork?
Yes.
The Bible Deuteronomy 14:8 And the swine because it divides the hoof yet chews not the cud it is unclean unto you: you shall not eat of their flesh nor touch their dead carcass.
Here is Jesus killing pigs.
The Bible Matthew 8:3032 And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding. So the devils besought him saying If you cast us out suffer us to go away into the herd of swine. And he said unto them Go. And when they were come out they went into the herd of swine: and behold the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea and perished in the waters.
Here Jesus denies he changed any of the Laws
The Bible Matthew 5:1718 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth until heaven and earth disappear not the smallest letter not the least stroke of a pen will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
People or going to interpret and do as they please no problem. |

In the old Testament pigs were seen as unclean animals but Jesus when asked said nothing is prohibited but not everything is beneficial. He also said to the pure everything is pure to the impure everything is impure. |

Yes and No
Yes in the OLD TESTAMENT. The book of Deuteronomy the 14th chapter. verses 7 and 8 It explains why no pigs for the Israelites.
But that was a cleanliness issue a health issue for pigs fed filth. Old garbage and maybe even human waste.
But a couple of thousand years later.
Read Romans 14 All of it There we are taught NOT to judge what goes into a mans mouth that we might not stumble a Cristian brother.
Now in this age only the eating of a blood product like pudding and sausage is restricted.
The Old testament was given to the Israelites for health reasons. Read all of Deuteronomy if you doubt that. Now those health reasons do not exist neither does the OLD MOSAIC LAW we are governed by the New covernant. No food restrictions involved except abstain from blood. |
